2010 U.S. Open Is History

By | June 25, 2010

Golf’s major championships often have a way of using a grand stage to introduce fans to unfamiliar names.

The same can be said for many golf fans this year as Graeme McDowell was crowned champion of the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. McDowell made a name for himself in both the realms of American golf and golf memorabilia.

This year’s U.S. Open was hyped as Tiger vs. Phil, but they will not be the golfers most cemented in this year’s U.S. Open memorabilia. There is a new name on the list of must-have golf autographs, and that name is Graeme McDowell.

McDowell, known overseas for his six victories on the European Tour, became the first ever Irishman to win the U.S. Open and the first European to win the tournament since Tony Jacklin in 1970. The tournament also marked McDowell’s first career PGA victory.

McDowell won a tournament that saw many people fail to close out their own chances for victory. Expect to hear from him much more often in the PGA.
